South Thamesmead Phase 2 is part of a larger regeneration programme in South Thamesmead. Phase 2 consists of 329 new dwellings split across 5 Blocks.
Phase 2 will be served from an Air Source Heat Pump Plant, which is located on the roof of Block A, with the ancillary equipment located in a heating substation on the ground floor of Block A. In addition, the heating system will be provided with a back-up to meet peak demand in the winter, from the existing Energy Centre, within the first Phase through Plate Heat Exchangers.
Our specification for this project was to supply the pipework, valves and brackets to deliver the consultant’s schematic, working with the existing layout of the Energy Centre and install the riser pipework to the four Air Source Heat Pumps.
Our welders are City and Guilds trained and are certified to level 3 for the offsite fabrication.
By fabricating the pipework off-site using the CAD drawings, this allowed us time to get the majority of the fabrication completed and stored at our premises before the install started. This was delivered to site for us to make a good start on installing the pipework fabrication.
Throughout the project, we were provided with additional dimensions by the client for fabrication, which we sent back to our fabrication facility in Fareham. The install team continued to install the other areas of pipework and the brackets required, so it was a continuous process of fabrication and installation.
Weld flanges were PN16, and the weld bends selected were long radius, which helped with the flow rate in the Low Temperature Hot Water System. Any equipment that required different flanges, i.e. PN 25 flanges, was identified before the project started, thus eliminating the potential for any errors on the fabrication side.
Main Plant on this project:
- 2No 600kw Plate Heat Exchangers
